These Are The Times That Try Men's [and Women's] Souls - Jill Stein Arrested While Attempting to Enter Presidential Debate in 2011

As a former political prisoner who was incarcerated in the U.S. prison system for ten years I can personally attest to just how courageous this was on the part of you and your running mate, Cheri Honkala. It was not only a tremendous act of moral courage, but you both put your emotional lives on the line, as well, by risking public embarrassment and humiliation for your country. Most Americans, except for much our nation's underclass, have little experience with the true nature of police brutality and the increasingly harsh nature of our growing police and surveillance state apparatus. You and Cheri deserve all the credit in the world for laying it on the line for your country in more ways than one. This harrowing act of moral courage was one of the reasons why I feel as strongly as I do about you and your campaign for president in 2016. Anybody who's willing to be arrested and chained to a chair at a black site facility for the better part of a day and, then, go out and continue to campaign for your country's approval in a presidential race the next day is my kind of American and my kind of patriot. In retrospect, you have earned both my praise and deepest admiration.

Carry on soldier!

“These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in the crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”

--Thomas Paine (1737-1809)
